Year of the Tiger - Chinese New Year 2010

This year Chinese New Year is February 14th (Valentine's Day!) The Tiger is the third sign in the cycle of Chinese Zodiac, which consists of 12 animal signs. It is a sign of courage. Sophia was born in the year of the Rat. Enjoy the pictures!

"In Chinese, the Rat is respected and considered a courageous, enterprising person. People born in the Year of Rat are clever and bright, sociable and family-minded. They have broad interests and strong ability in adapting to the environment and able to react adequately to any changes.

They are gifted in many ways and have an easy going manner. They are active and pleasant, tactful and fantastic, and are able to grasp opportunities. They seem to have interests in everything and hope to participate in doing it and usually do it very well."

Eating and serving!!!

Sophia's new talent is being able to peel and eat a whole clementine!!! She was so focused on eating she did not say a word in the video! She has also been a very good helper with serving Carmine his breakfast and lunch.

Protein Ideas for Toddlers

One item we always have in our kitchen is medium or firm tofu. It makes quick, lowfat, protein- packed entrees.

Quick soup: Organic chicken broth + organic baby spinach leaves + diced tofu. Season with ground pepper. We honestly don't add salt in her food. Simmer for a few minutes and that's it! I've discovered that the baby spinach has been more successful than regular spinach leaves since it has less texture for toddlers. Before serving, use scissors to cut up the spinach leaves in strips.

Her first favorite finger food that's protein was cold, diced tofu. Sophia and her toddler peers are pretty particular about the texture of their protein. Today was the first day, at 19.5 months, that I was able to successfully serve her half of a lean, grilled, ground beef patty. After broiling, I added a bit of shredded cheese. Before serving, the patty was diced in smaller cubes. We served it with organic ketchup and BBQ sauce.

You will be amazed at how much more kiddos will eat if they can dip in things...no matter if you think it's good or not :) It's all about having fun to them.

Here are some of Sophia's favorite protein options:
Peanut butter
Tofu
Chicken corndog (purchased from Sprouts)
Whole grain breaded fish fillets or chicken nuggets
Crockpot chicken soup (has been hit or miss for little boss)
Turkey meatballs
Meatloaf
Scrambled eggs with shredded cheese
Edamame(fresh soybean) is a great option but we don't have much luck with this one.
Quiche
Turkey sausage and breakfast links

It's pretty interesting to note how your toddler reacts to the food. We introduce and cycle through the above list of food on a regular basis. We do not remove rejected items because toddlers are very inconsistent with their eating behaviors. Also, keep in mind the way you cut the food and make note if it makes a difference if she/he is feeding herself. Sometimes, just by giving her a utensil will increase your chances of success.

It's not about beefing (no pun intended) her up as much as keeping her healthy! For Sophia, it's been tried an true.

Shoes for the chubby piggies!

I love the infant and toddler stage. They are so meaty, I just want to squeeze them to death! I love, love, love See Kai Run and Pediped brand shoes. They have soft, sturdy, and flexible rubber soles which are great for new walkers. The insole, for sandals and covered toes shoes, is breathable leather and we have never had any issues with stinky piggies!!!

Accessories and Supplies

Here is minicoop almost at 19 months. She now understands that she can make decisions and have choices. She loves accessories, choosing which shoes to wear, and which coat to take!!

Here are some of the newborn items that we felt were a must when we first met our little boss.
-100% cotton, button up, outfits. It is more comfy and easier to use button up outfits since they don't have much neck support. They also have sensitive skin, so we tried to stick with breathable, soft 100% cotton material.

-Remember not to use dryer sheets with your baby's clothes. That could also cause your baby to have an allergic reaction.

-Try using regular laundry detergent on a load of clothes. If you see a reaction, try Dreft baby laundry detergent. We ended up using Dreft because she has a mild case of Excema.

-Speaking of dry skin, newborns and infants do not require daily baths. It will dry their skin out. Their skin is sensitive since the "tough" layer of their skin has not developed yet. Test the bath water with your wrist. It is more sensitive than your hands and fingers.

-To combat severe dry skin we used Eucerin Aquaphor. It comes in a tub; looks and feels like thick petroleom jelly. As Sophia got older her skin as less sensitive, like many babies, so we switched over to Cetaphil® Moisturizing *Cream*; nongreasy; we also use it on us! Love the whole line!

-Cotton blankets: Register for different sizes, different thickness, and multiple blankets. You will find out that you can't have enough! For your car(backup), babysitters' house or daycare, and extra for laundry.

-Baby monitors: We were given the Evenflo Whisper Connect. But the best part was, Aunt Victoria and Uncle Keith were generous enough to buy the extra monitor. That has come very handy! The set works very well.

-Changing table: This is a must! It will save you from backpains and help you avoid stains. Make sure to purchase a table with comparments to optimize space.

There is so much more to share! Aunt Cindy is generous enough to babysit tomorrow, so The Coopers get to go have happy hour with our friends!! Adult socializing without kids is far and few in between. We are trying to find that balance between being parents and a couple. But, it's refreshing to see that we still love being around each other after 19 months of diaper changing :)Add Image

Having fun! Go KU Basketball!!

In the spirit of University of Kansas basketball, Sophia is learning how to spot a Jayhawk and watch the games with Daddy! Here is a comparison between 4 months and 18 months! She is now a full 23 pounds of happiness. She is in the phase of dancing, imitating our expressions and hand gestures like "Shhh!" , understanding a lot of the direction that we give her, and great with helping us pick up(but she is smart of enough to ignore us!) during clean up time. She is also really into rides, drawing, and playing with stickers now! She loves her books. She cracks us up with her animal sounds! Loves, loves animals. Oh yeah...when she feels mean..she pulls on Carmine's tale! We make her hug and say sorry! It comes out as "awrry", since she can't say your "S" yet. :))

Preventing Diaper Rashes

Too funny! Last week, Sophia grabbed the tissue paper out of my hand and wanted to wipe herself! She is learning to "pat, pat" her hands dry. It's amusing she is understanding what I'm doing. Maybe she is ready for potty training! Not looking forward to accidents though! Ugh.

Here is a collection of what we try to do to stay on top of diaper rashes. We have learned that it does not take much to create a diaper rash. Staying on top of it will pay off in the long run. A special thanks to my Mom, our daycare teachers, and our pediatrician for all of their advice and tips. A special recognition to Simon, "Daddy", for all of his due diligence and care.

-Daycare is expected to change diapers, at a minimum, every two hours. We follow the same schedule at home, with regular checks in between. Of course, soiled diapers are changed as soon as it is detected.
-At 18 months, its cute to be able to ask Sophia to take my hand and follow me so we can go change her diaper.
-After bowel movements, we wipe her diaper area with wipes(unscented has less ingredients and chemicals) and then wash the area with baby shampoo & water.
-Before a new diaper, we make sure to use a bit of toilet paper to pat her dry.
-Next, apply ointment (after each change).
-Moisture(from sweat or dirty diapers) causes the rash or infections. The acid from the soiled diaper is another reason.
-We like using unscent ointments like Boudreaux's Butt Paste or Triple paste diaper cream. Don't treat the cream like lotion. Apply it liberally. It is to provide a barrier to protect your baby's skin.
-Summer heat, car seats, too many layers, and the baby's sweat are other culprits for rashes.
-Consider using cloth diapers.
-Make sure the diaper is not on too tight (gives breathing room). Airing dry is very beneficial (naked time!) and it's a good opportunity for a kodak moments!
-We wash her diaper area every morning during her first diaper change.
-Using a lot of bubbles in bubble baths or taking long baths can cause infections. This is more of an issue for girls. Our pediatrician recommends for us to stick to 5 minute baths. Or, avoid using bubbles every night.

Happy Changing! Cheers to nake time!

New Beginnings and Finger Foods

Today, Sophia and I went out on our first Friday of 2010! Last fall, I made the decision to go on Select Time with Bank of America. This means, I technically only get paid for 32 hours a week. It is the best place to work given all of the associate benefits including maternity and paternity leave(12 weeks off!). Also, the work from home program is invaluable. It is a very supportive culture, and it is such a win win situation for both the associates and company.

Of course, it is a change in my income to be on the Select Time, but babies only grow up once! This is how I feel is the best compromise for me to still have a career and have quality time with my baby. It's been 18 months, and I am finally feeling comfortable with dropping her off at the 24-Hours Fitness kids zone while I workout. Their service was also recommended by a friend.

Afterwards, we had a great lunch at California Pizza Kitchen. I can't believe how a little being can provide such great love and company. I tried introducing her to hummus for the 2nd time, but she didn't care for it. She did welcome the hamburger pizza. I plan to recreate the pizza(angus beef, chedder+mozarella cheese) at home!

We have come a long way with regards to her food journey. From purees to finger food, now she just likes to eat!
--When Sophia got into solids I would simply cut(vs puree) her steamed/baked veggies/fruit in cubes. Or, cut steamed veggies like broccoli into little trees.
--When serving fruit, make sure it's nice and ripe.
--Make note of your baby's reaction to the temperature of the food. She might not like the cold berries, but it it might be well received if you take out the fresh or frozen fruit ahead of time (to shake the chill).
--With zucchini and yellow squash, I peeled the skin off before boiling.
--Cubed tofu was a hit, but she does not seem to care for it right this moment. I noticed she will go in cycles of not liking something, so I wait...then reintroduce it again. Don't write it off if babies or toddlers reject the food, try and try again.
--Edamame (boil it to make it softer)
--Even today, she still loves baked sweet potatoes
--Dried fruit(prunes, raisans)
--Cubed/string cheese is a bit hit!
--Whole grain toast, crackers
--If she has trouble picking food up, you can try coating them in Cheerios dust. I learned that from http://www.wholesomebabyfoods.com/
--Now she is getting into pistachios!
--Don't forget about the joy of dipping. You can use yogurt, broth, hummus, jelly, etc.

I tend to see what they have in the baby food aisle, and if it makes sense I will recreate my own simpler, all natural version.

Bon apetit! Above is during Christmas Eve. Sophia loved Aunt Cindy's mushroom soup!

Books, Vietnamese, and Thumbsucking!

I find it fascinating how Sophia and many toddlers thoroughly enjoy music and studying books of all sorts. I love watching her take her time to select her night time reading. Sometimes, she will sit quietly, suck her left thumb(always left thumb) and listen to us read word for word. On other days, she would rather flip through the hard cover pages like she's speed reading. As she is holding a book (or junk mail), it's held close to the face, her eyes beam this cute look of intensity from concentrating.

It is impressive how quickly she remembers new words. For that reason, I make it a priority to speak a lot of Vietnamese to her. It has been useful, since Simon is learning at the same time :)

Here are a few newly purchased books that will be going into our collection. This time the theme was focused on the Vietnamese language and thumb sucking. We are taking baby steps to help her wean off her thumb sucking. I will make sure to share more books that we have from her favorite readings (such as Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See).

--Ten Mice for Tet! - Pegi Deitz Shea ; A book to help Sophia learn about the Chinese/Vietnamese New Year celebration.
--Thumbuddy to Love: Ballerina Sue - Andrea Wulfing Van Ness
--Sing 'n Learn Vietnamese (English and Vietnamese Edition) - Hop Thi Nguyen; This comes with a CD; includes common toddler songs.
--Which Animals Suck Their Thumbs? - Kimberly Selzman

If the stories are simple, we use the book for the pictures and I substitute the words with Vietnamese words.

To a new year full of new stories!!! Cheers!

Infant Tried and True Supplies

We felt very loved with all of the warm gifts and memorable baby shower hosted by the Tran Sisters. I am very excited to all of the new mommies out there. I hope you will find this list helpful. I will continue to add to my Baby Best Practices and Supplies list. Stay tuned!

When we put our registry together, it was driven by a lot of online research and consumer reviews between target.com, amazon.com, babierus.com, Consumer Reports magazines, walmart.com.

The following items (in not particular order) are supplies that have been tried and true for our family. They kept our little boss happy! Happy Baby = Happy Mommy = Happy Family :)

We received a lot of compliments on these socks! I wanted these before I was even pregnant!Trumpette Mary Jane Box Set. They also have long hoses. More importantly, they stay on! Various baby boutiques carry them. We had a registry on Amazon.com, Target.com, and Babies R Us. Becareful, they do run a bit small. Don't wash in warm temperature. Minicoop had "cankles"..still does :p. We love them so much, we ordered mulitple sizes.

Fisher-Price Ocean Wonders Aquarium
We own two different aquariums from FP, but they have very similar functionalities. We had get one a second one for the daycare crib . We love this one because it comes with a remote control. It doesn't look impressive until you turn it on. Minicoop was very mesmerized by the moving algae, lights, fish, and music. The music volume has mulitple levels and it's very soothing. The light is a bit on the bright side, but you can simply avoid it by not putting the baby too close to the aquarium. During naps and overnight, make sure your rotate baby's body and head position to avoid major flat spots. Minicoop is 18 months now and she still likes to listen to this on a regular basis. The funny thing is, she is now old enough to know how to push it on and off herself! The most precious thing is when we first witnessed her sitting up and pushing the button for the first time!

BABYBJÖRN Baby Carrier
One item I would not skimp on is a quality carrier. We used this for walking, outdoor events, taking that baby to the mall, basically anytime when you need two free hands. You want the carrier to be easy to put on. The material needs to be washable and breathable to help you and the baby stay cool. And of course sturdy and adjustable for Mom, Dad, and a growing baby. The particular model that we purchased does not seem to be available any longer. But, I highly recommend comparing the various models to your lifestyle http://www.babybjorn.com/

Tiny Love Gymini Super Deluxe - Lights&Music
We love this particular activity center because it has music, a lot of detachable animals where you can rearrange; the size is perfect; easy to open and collapse. The mirror is great for the baby's development and amusement. We used this for play time, tummy time, and quiet time. The mat is machine washable. Creatively, since it's a zoo theme, it also has crunchy and squishy ear flaps to play with. This was the easiest time to take pictures of minicoop, since she was not so mobile back then! This toy also travels well.

Fall 2009 Portraits

It's all about repeating words to us now! "Hi Baby, Hi, Bye, "Ge dow"(for Get Down ..to the cat!), Daddy, Mommy, Mamma, Chank yoo, Pease, Doggie...Enjoy our Fall portraits. Sophia loves, loves animals. If you say "Doggie" she will say Woof , WOOF! The first image captured her excitement as a doggie was walking by. Happy Holidays!

Snack Favorites

Here is what our 18 month tends to eat at her 3 pm daily snack time.

Sprouts and Kroger both have great organic and all natural snacks.
I can only seem to find the Organic Stoneyfield drinkable yogurt at Target.

Diced fruit
Cubed cheese - chedder/swiss
Organic Stoneyfield drinkable yogurt
Wheat crackers
String cheese, fruit
I'm still trying to get her to eat more of hummus
Diluted juice
Peanut butter and wheat crackers
Cheese and wheat crackers
Organic applesauce (variety of apple and mixed berries)
Prunes
Dates
Crushed Pistachios
Frozen organic fruits

Breakfast Favorites

I find myself doing a lot of research on creative ways to give minicoop healthy recipes. My goal is to share the wealth and goodies and pay it forward! For breakfast Sophia loves eating:

Yobaby Stoneyfield yogurt.
Cheerios
Warm milk
Whole grain waffles
Pancakes - Flaxseeds can be added which makes them have a nutty texture
Scrambled eggs with shredded cheese

She always drink milk for breakfast and lunch.
After she accepted whole milk, we slowly allowed her to have diluted juice only at her snack time.
In between her sit down meals, she loves drinking water.

Learning how to brush my teeth!

As Sophia's first birthday came and went (besides falling behind on our blog :p) I felt so proud of Simon and myself, excited for Sophia, and sad that we have already passed one full year. Where did the year go? The phrase "She only grows up once!" continues to play in my ears. It gave me clarity on how I should spend my time. Effective August 1st, I am ecstatic to say that I only work Mondays-Thursdays and have Fridays off with Sophia.

Enter to view some of our favorite moments in May before her Big ONE!

Additional Heart Melters:
-9 months When I picked Sophia up from daycare, it was so adorable to see her weave around toys and kids to crawl to me.
-10 months Sophia knew to discriminate between her Mommy and others; When she was hungry or tired, she would crawl to us and suck her chubby left thumb
-10.5 months We had a fast cruiser on all fours. She also knew how to point out for things.
-11.5 months We were high fiving and able to ask Sophia to give us things.

Early Spring Milestones

I was thoroughly excited to welcome Spring! For me, being pregnant during the Spring was the best. Spring dresses that look like maternity dresses were everywhere... cute sandals, flip flops, pedicures, LOVED the pedicures, spring colors, blooming flowers, outdoor dining, brunches with girl friends...well, not much has changed with why I love Spring! :)

To our delight, March was our first time hearing Sophia use the words "Da Da. " Til this day, I still have not heard a single lick of Ma'ma!! The amusing thing is, Simon has caught her looking directly at me as she whispers "Da Da!" It melted my heart when told me that. Too cute eh?

I remember back when I first took her into daycare. She was barely 3 months old in the Fall. I would look at the webcam daily..make it hourly ..to ensure I knew what was going on. Since she was the youngest I was afraid that she might not get enough attention. I felt scared that she might not be used to the environment and get hurt by the "Crawlers" and "Wobblers". I felt very vulnerable that I couldn't be there to protect her and give her undivided attention and love.

As time went on, the teachers have thoroughly earned my respect. I commend them for their countless hours, their efficiency, and dedication. I appreciate that they are willing to put up with new moms like me and also give me advice and coaching when asked. More importantly, I love the fact that their hearts are the right place for every baby. It shows with how happy Sophia is every time we drop her off and pick her up.

As April rolled around, Sophia started side stepping! I started being scared for the new babies. Over Spring, Sophia and her twin girlfriends have been the oldest. They've turned into the "crawlers" and NOW "wobblers" ..and what I call the mobile kiddos.... "trouble makers"! :))

Click into the gallery and enjoy. We try to let Sophia enjoy the weather as much as possible. And, we couldn't resist making her take pictures since the Texas Bluebonnets were out!!

First Valentines! 2009

Around Valentine's Day Sophia learned the "commando crawl"! She looked like a cute little Army soldier! We hosted Valentines dinner for my siblings and the guys. Uncle Toan was nice enough to make his scrumptious ribs on the grill. For the first time, I made Seafood Diavlo. I might add, it was very tasty!! Checkout the yummy menu in the picture gallery!

Gymnastics here I come!

I don't have words to describe how amazing it is to see Sophia obtain new skills! It literally took two days for her to know how to hold her sippy cup, and one day to pick up Purely O's (aka whole grain Cheerios). In late January, she mastered sitting up. But, how she transitions from a crawling position to sitting up is too cute. Enter the gallery and watch her! Her daycare teachers told us to put her in gymnastics!

Pureed food, Purely O's, and Sippy Cup

January through February- Sophia went from sampling rice cereal, to whole grain cereal, then welcomed an assortment of home made pureed organic veggies, followed by home made fruit purees, and dabbled in a few Purely O's (organic whole grain oat cereal) PLUS the introduction of the sippy cup!! We decided to wait until she was 8 months to introduce solid food. Wholesomebabyfood.com has been a great resource for me. The current recommendations indicate that breast milk or formula should be baby’s main source of nutrition until at least 6 months of age. Check out how much she loves eating pureed peas and her finger skills! She still loves whole peas and can eat Purely O's all day! Click to enter.

Rub a Dub Dub!

I enjoy comparing Sophia's birth pictures with her more recent images. Here she is at birth vs 7.5 months. In January, we thoroughly enjoyed using the Safety First bath chair. It allows us to have both hands free and the chair swivels for maximum fun! She has quickly out grown the chair but it's still worth the purchase. She has filled out well don't you think?

First signs of sitting!

I am playing catch up on our blog! At 7 months, mid-January, we noticed Sophia mastering her sitting skills. One day I walked into daycare, I opened the door, there she was...sitting in the middle of the colorful play mat surrounded by her friends and toys! She was sitting all by herself, with no support, beaming a smile at me!! Back then we noticed she was able to sit up, but we were skeptical that she could do it without support. I couldn't resist running to her to give her a big hug! I love watching her sit because it shows her cute round belly! Click to enter gallery.

Nash Farm in Grapevine, Texas

Happy Spring Everyone!!!
Work has kept me busy, but when it's time to see my family nothing else really matters. The more I observe Sophia, the more amazed I am about child development. She is a firecracker these days. She will make sure to tell you when she wants something!! If you take a toy away you better have a diversion plan or drama queen will give you a piece of her mind. She can pull herself up quite well and will proudly say "Da'dA, DA DAA, Da da" over and over again! She can tell you a full story with those two simple words! Not a LICK of Ma ma!! :) She is a very confident 18 pounder. She's only in the 8% in height but that doesn't stop her from getting anywhere! She can crawl too well now. Here she is at 9.5 months enjoying Spring and the petting farm. Enter and enjoy.

Frisco Commons

We discovered a very cute, open, large trail and park by our neighborhood. It's called Frisco Commons. We hope to do a picnic at this park when she turns the big #1. Here is Sophia around 7 months.

I can sit and play!!!

Around the 3rd week of January we discovered Sophia can sit without much support! One day I walked into her daycare room..opened the classroom door..there she was in the center of the room! She was sitting and playing with her friends!!! Here she is proving it to us at home.

3 weeks vs 7 months

Last night, we discovered a few new skills! While she's on here belly, she can push herself up into a sitting position!!! It's funny! By the time she is upright, her short chubby legs are positioned wide open like she's doing the splits!! She can also return back to her hands and knees AND chase after the cat!! For the first time, we saw her effortlessly squirm(not 100% crawling yet) up to Carmine and tried to pet him. Uh oh!! In three attempts, she tried reaching out for his face but he ended up running away. I think it freaked him out to realize that she can move!!! And, she is now heavier than him! She's sitting at ~18 lbs. Kitty Carmine is 14 lbs. Here are a few images comparing her size at 3 weeks vs 7 months.

I am growing!!!!

Sophia is getting praises at school for being the "greeter". As her teachers walk into the classroom, she tends to "say hi" by showering them with her ear to ear smile and her high pitch squeals! Back in September, at 3 months old, she was the youngest baby in her class . Now, a set of twins and Sophia are the oldest babies in a classroom of nine chubby infants. Actually, there is a cute boy who is the oldest kiddo. But, it's obvious that Sophia, Jordan & Jayden (twins) are the reigning queens :p Poor baby Chandler. He's too nice!

These days we never have to worry about her not getting enough exercise. Her three teachers mentioned she's a quick one. After being placed on the playmat, within a blink of an eye, she's squirmed off !!! Hear comes trouble!!!

Sophia and Hunter

Here is a cute series of Sophia hanging out with her girlfriend Hunter.

Yummy to My Tummy!

After 6 months, we started Sophia out slow with cereal. I am very grateful and proud that I have been able to nurse for this long. It does make it inconvenient and restricts my schedule at times, but I know it will pay off in the long run. For the countless benefits and precious 1 on 1 time, my goal is to continue nursing as close to 1 year as possible. We are still going strong. Whew! Soon after Christmas, Sophia was very ready to sample cereal of all sorts. Recently, I have been making her organic pureed vegetables. She has thoroughly enjoyed sweet potatoes, carrots, and peas! Next week, we will sample butternut squash!! Checkout how excited she was in this gallery.

Chinese New Year 2008

Sophia is 7.5 months! She can sit, she is sampling veggies, saying "Da-da"..no signs of Ma-ma!!!! She can't fully crawl but she can squirm amazingly fast to get to where she needs to go! It's time for us to get on our hands and knees. If it looks fun to us..it will probably look interesting for her to get into. We are very relieved that our family made it home from their fun trip in Thailand and Vietnam. Sophia received several beautiful Vietnamese gowns from Aunt Le and Aunt Cindy. Earlier this month, my Uncle Mau and Aunt Terri hosted a local Dallas family gathering to celebrate Chinese New Year. Before the family gathering, we took a series of pictures. Sophia is thankful that her Great Uncle Mau hosted her very first Chinese New Year celebration. Enjoy the pictures!

Favorite Friend

Sophia got this cute outfit from Aunt Cindy. Last month, I caught her relaxing in her crib while wrestling with her favorite toy. She still loves this sheep she got from Nana Cooper.

Christmas Vacation '08 in Wichita

Simon and I always look forward to our Christmas vacation. It's our chance to have two weeks off to catch up with family, extended family, & friends. Two weeks of relaxation! The memories we cherish the most are the conversations and time spent with our loveds ones. View gallery to see what we were up to.

Christmas Morning 2008 - First Christmas!

Sophia's first Christmas was spent in Wichita. It was her second road trip and she did really well. Unfortunately, from Thanksgiving and through Christmas, our little Cooper clan was sharing a wealth of winter colds. Lovely daycare!! While we were in Wichita the temperature was in the teens and single digits at night. However, it was surprisingly warm after Christmas day. On Christmas morning, we opened presents at Nana Cooper's and enjoyed yummy prime rib. It was heaven! Many mornings, Sophia was kind enough to let us sleep in until 9 am. She knew we were on vacation! :p Sophia spent part of the vacation at Nana Coopers, hung out with Uncle Kevin and visited her great grandparents - Van's Grandparents. The Trans were missed. The older we get, the more we appreciate having family. Family will always be around. That is why we want to have kids. My sisters and Parents were traveling with Toan's family (Cindy's fiancee) to Thailand and Vietnam.

Christmas '08 Dallas Brunch

This past Christmas was Sophia's first Christmas! Simon and I feel very fortunate to have such a healthy and happy baby. We couldn't have asked for a better gift. Over Christmas, my sisters, brother-in-law Toan and his parents, including my parents took a tour to Thailand and Vietnam. The Trans sisters decided to have an early Christmas brunch and gift exchange before their big tour. We thoroughly enjoyed Lawry's Prime Rib for brunch. Afterwards, we had yummy cheesecake and coffee in the comfort of our own home. Click to enter gallery.

Hanging out with Family

Here are memorable moments of Sophia while she was having a great time in Wichita over the Thanksgiving holiday. We were on vacation for a week. She was all smiles and thoroughly enjoyed meeting everyone! Below is Aunt Le and Sophia. Sophia loves to make sounds with her lips! Click to enter gallery.

Happy Birthday Daddy!

It was a very eventful Thanksgiving in 2008. We brought Sophia home for the first time. Aunt Cindy and Uncle Toan got engaged. Our friend Angela had her first baby shower. Simon's Aunt Dorothy celebrated her 90th birthday! Also, we reconnected with old college friends and Simon celebrated his 34th birthday! Edna, Nana Cooper, made yummy lamb shanks for dinner. My mom and I found a to die for ice cream cake just for Simon!

All Giggles and Smiles

Her smile makes us melt!!! Here is a mix of favorites during the first 5.5 months.

First Road Trip! Thanksgiving 2008 Tran Family

Sophia's very first road trip was to Wichita to visit the family over Thanksgiving. It was her very first time to meet many of the our extended relatives. She did really well in the car- both ways! After a late afternoon feeding, we hit the road and she slept straight through the 5.5 hours drive!! We arrived into town a few days before the festivities. Surprisingly, upon arrival at 1 am she woke up and played with Hoa Ma (Grandma Tran) and Hoa Con (Grandpa Tran) before crashing again!!! Below is my Grandma (our Mom's mom). Sophia's Great Grandmother in her early 80s. We go home for her home cookin!!! Click to enter the gallery.

Thanksgiving 2008 at Nanna Coopers

It was Sophia's first time back to Wichita since she was born. It was also about 3 months since Nanna and "Hoa Ma" (Grandma in Chinese) have seen Sophia. Sophia thoroughly enjoys Nanna's nursery rhymes! She has definitely got us beat on the number of nursery rhymes she knows. Daddy better step it up a notch! Ha. Ha!! Thank you Nanna for the hard work and delicious meal. The Wasabi Mashed Potatos was a hit! It was the first time Sophia met Great Uncle Monty, Uncle Albert, and Aunt Deanna. We are thankful to have both sides of the family living in Wichita, KS. My parents live just down the street from Nanna Cooper. Here is what we've captured while at Nanna's house.

Cindy and Toan's Engagement

Congratulations to my baby sister! We are excited to formally welcome Toan into our family. Cindy and Toan had their formal Engagement Tea Ceremony while we were in Wichita for Thanksgiving. Here are a variety of images captured while my camera was pass around :) Click to enter gallery.
